What’s in a year…

2017 has been an amazing year with many changes for our little family run company. In 2016 we had to close the shop for all of the month December. Most other months, leading up to that, we were only open for one day a week, to try and catch up with orders.
In fact this was still the case for the first quarter of 2017.

I’m so happy that, even though we ship out more leather notebooks and inserts than ever before, we are able to meet the demand. It was a steep learning curve, but an amazing journey.

New in 2017

We introduced several new things in 2017, among which the Pendragon and Morgan leathers. and several new products. Continue reading

Last month was NaNoWriMo, National Novel Writing Month, which has gone global and although I tried my best to keep up with my diary, I’m afraid my decorating did suffer a bit from my daily novel writing goal.

Fortunately it was all not in vain, because I did succeed in writing 50,000 words by November 27.

Although my initial goal to write an entire story from start to finish did not turn out exactly how I planned it. Continue reading

Day 19 of the NaNoWriMo challenge and it looks like I’m going to get there, hopefully a little ahead of time even. You can find me as MoniqueVMB on the NaNoWriMo site.

nano day 19

I changed the name of the novel once already and I’m still not completely sure about it, but I figure it’s just a working title and it’ll probably change again once I’m done. Especially since I now found that the story is not going to be finished in 50,000 words.

So far I did an outline and wrote the first 10 or so chapters. Expanded the rest of the outline, figured out who the characters are going to be and generally dug myself in deeper and deeper. To a point where I now find myself drawing maps and thinking about place names for the world.

One thing I learned from this exercise so far, is that writing begets writing… Once you start you automatically wind up going deeper and deeper into the story. Building layer upon layer. It’s so much fun to see how one sentence can turn into this elaborate piece. It reminds me of painting, which, at least to me, works on this same principle.

At the end of October I set up my B6 with 3 notebooks, 1 Nano Insert, 1 courses and classes insert and one 100+ page writing insert. Continue reading

#todaysupdate… something completely different. I was requested to make a gift for a friend this week, but was too eager to start, so I started in the wrong color… That meant I had to make a new one for her…in Royal Blue… yes, a new color 😉

Now what to do with the pretty brown one…well, waste not want not… since I already dropped of the wagon with #onebookjuly and went from 2 to 3 notebooks, I figured why not… So I’m now back on 4, lol.

This one is an A6 in #31 dark brown.

This year I’m taking a different approach to NaNoWriMo. So far I’ve been a real discovery writer, or a pantser as they say. Never made an outline in my life. However I do tend to drift and get lost in the story. Somehow there’s always more to tell…
So this year I thought I’d do it differently. I signed up for Skillshare and followed a class (or two, maybe more) and made an outline for my story. My goal is to write one story from start to finish in about 50,000 words. I don’t care how good it’s going to be, I just care that it’s written from start to finish.

Yes you are seeing it correctly, I traded my previous B6 with my husband, because I wanted a lighter color. This Saddle tan cover somehow goes better with my mood.-

Now that we finally caught up with all our orders and new ones going out the door on schedule, YAY, I decided I would this year have time to participate in NaNoWriMo. Obviously that meant I needed a new notebook. The perfect excuse to finally make the B6 size I’ve been wanting for quite some time now.

It was so hard to choose a color, because I wanted a color I didn’t have yet, but I also wanted it to look a bit rugged and Indiana Jones-y… So I went with #7 Dark Brown. But I’m still a bit on the fence about the color, but that probably has more to do with the fact that it is still new and hasn’t come to life yet.

So Yesterday evening I spend my time setting up my writerly notebook. First I needed a NaNoWriMo insert obviously, so I created one for 2017 in B6 ISO. You can find it as a freebee with the free printables. Continue reading

Since I decided to join the #onebookjuly challenge, be it in a somewhat adapted format, I’ve been in my B6 slim planner with all my personal planning and journaling. I’ve got all my work stuff in my, ever growing, A5 Lady Falcon Business. Making it effectively one book for personal and one book for work.

I’m still loving the way this works, although I must admit that my work TN is getting bigger all the time. I keep adding new sections to the notebook. With now 6 inserts in there and a folder with pen-loops, I think maybe it needs some reorganizing.

My Personal B6 slim however is still in it’s original format, with a planner insert, a journaling insert and a folder. Continue reading
