Falcon Travelers

Dutch Design Leather, Est 2013

I finished the last few pages of the mini art journal insert. I tried some cool layering and distressing techniques. Unfortunately, I completely forgot to make progress pics. I’ll try and remember that for next time, as I always enjoy watching the process of how one thing (or several things) becomes somthing completely different and unexpected.

Here’s a sneek peek at the back cover of the booklet, wich I entered in the Eclectic Paperie Challenge: Fabric, since I incorporated tule fabric in the design.

For this page I first made a background with acrylic paints and some stencilling. Wich I then allmost completely covered with the cut outs from the papers. I sanded the pictures and then added some white acrylic paint as a white wash. It was really fun, sanding the paper and I love how it makes the pictures look.

For the next page I explored the layering technique a little more by adding strips of book pages (cut outs from the iPhone case I made), tule fabric, acrylic paints, glimmer mists and alcohol inks. I can’t remember what colours I used. I then added the little fussy cut girl, distressed her with victorian velvet, walnut stain and brushed corduroy. I then gave her wings and added a diamond glaze over the top.

For the back cover I completely went with the layering. I layered strips of paper, corrigated board, tule fabric, doylies and die cuts. On top of that I painted texture paste. After letting that dry, I sprayed it with tree different colours of glimmer mist (Red velvet, scarlet and caribbean blue). Then I leaned back and watched the magic happen, when all the colours did their thing. I let it air dry, because that seems to be the best thing for this  technique. I repeated this process twice and after that I went in with some gold rub ‘n buff and white and black acrylic paint. I’m rather pleased with how it turned out.

Lastly I have taken a picture of my journal page with the Venice picture, just to proove that it is indeed Venice…

With, as added bonus, a view of my exploded work surface.
Thank you for watching and should you have any questions, tips or remarks, please leave a comment below.

Oh beautiful. I love how the tulle added such wonderful texture. (I've got some somewhere……) and I definitely love your painting of Venice. This whole book is simply gorgeous and I love all the different textural elements. Beautiful. Thanks so much for playing along with the E-Team in our Get Altered Challenge.
