A while back Susi from Art Journal Journey asked me if I would like to think of a theme for December. I immediately said yes, because I love joining in the Art Journal Journey montly prompts. I thought a bit for a while and finally came up with the theme “Dark and Light”.
I think (hope) this theme leaves enough room for play and still ties in with the overall December theme. She also asked me to make an example.
So here it is, I even found a quote that ties in with the theme wonderfully.
There is in every true woman’s heart, a spark of heavenly fire,
which lies dormant in the broad daylight of prosperity,
but which kindles up and beams and blazes in the dark hour of adversity.
– Washington Irving
I made some progress pics and detail shots, but forgot to turn the camera on and make a film.
I hope now that the NaNoWriMo 50000 word challenge is over I will have more time to do video’s again.
I started out with a loose leaf scrapbook paper and added Gesso.
I then glued some pieces from a pattern I was given in the wednesday swap from the facebook group.
I think the pattern paper and instructions look fabulous.
After watching a video online with a lady playing with alcolhol inks, I felt like taking out my alcohol inks and play with them.
So I did and then drew a rough face outline with ink and pen.
I liked how the outline looked, added some white ink and thought about leaving it like it was. I liked the simplicity of the drawing.
But apparently felt like playing with my soft pastels and acrylics, so I did.
Which is what made me happy. So I added some the final details and the quote.
I like how she turned out.
The transparency of the face.
Making her look fragile,
Yet strong.
I feel like that at times as I think we all do.
In the past year I have learnt that adversity can make us stronger.
I feel my burn out, in the beginning of this year, has tought me some valuable lessons. I am emerging on the other side as a stronger woman and, hopefully, a better person. More myself then I ever was.
I found this wonderful community online with beautiful creative people and that in itself makes me happy.
So I hope you can find some inspiration in this theme of “Dark and Light” and go out to create something wonderful for yourself and show us on Art Journal Journey.
I hope to find you there and I wish you a wonderful day.
That's a wonderful theme and magnificent pages!

This is a great theme, and what fabulous pages. I love the way you paint faces, using such intuitive marks and colours, and reading your intro to the art journal page was interested to learn that you use your hands to paint.I do too and my fingers are constantly covered in paint… I have come to accept that I will never have beautiful nails!
